I started volunteering with Town Cats about
5 years ago when I got my first lesson in trapping after a kitten
had babies on our fence. A friend referred us to Town Cats and they
told us how to handle the situation. Soon after, we received our
first foster kitten named Venus, and since then, I have been volunteering
for Town Cats.
About 2 years after that, I was required to do some Community Service
with a group of friends for a Girl Scout project, and we all decided
to go to Town Cats to help the kitties there. Since that was my
first experience at the shelter, and it was a good one, I went back
to help again, and with the volunteering came Dartanian, a gray
and white tabby mix, then Giovanni shortly after. I also decided
I liked fostering and received another batch of pre-wean kittens,
and to-date, I have fostered over 150 cats and kittens. I mainly
do fostering of pre-wean kittens and I run Sick Bay; both my mom
and I do the I.V. fluids, shots, and everything needed to save the
kitties, along with getting up at 2 a.m. to bottle-feed pre-wean
kittens.
Although I am a teenager and should be spending
my summers going to the movies and having parties and such, I instead
foster kittens and research their health and
medications
and spend my days caring for sick and pre-wean kittens, or I trap
and do the TNR program on ferals. I also occasionally run pet fairs
in Morgan Hill and will be running a Gilroy Pet Fair soon. I plan
on attending U.C. Davis or Cornell University, New York, and pursuing
a career in Veterinary Medicine. I am already a sophomore in High
School and I plan on attending U.C. Davis or Cornell University,
New York and pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine due to my
love of animals, particularly cats. I feel I have Town Cats to thank
for the love of cats I now have!
A big paws up to Chris! Send
us an email if you'd like
to volunteer to help the cats!
