Meet
Joey, this month's (June, 2006) Town Cats Volunteer of the Month!
Town
Cats has many teen volunteers. Most of the teens need to complete
Community Service hours. Once the hours are completed, however,
the teen usually disappears. It is unusual to have a teen that stands
out.
Joey came to Town Cats to complete community service
hours. He could have chosen any place to do his community service
but because he loves animals, he chose Town Cats. We put him to
work right away doing the night shift on Friday nights. Although
the work he was asked to do was not glamorous - scooping litter
boxes - he did it with a grin on his face and was always ready and
willing to do whatever was needed. Joey showed his true commitment
to Town Cats around Christmas time. Town Cats was asked to help
Petsmart with the “get your pet’s picture taken with
Santa Claus” Campaign. We had many people to take pictures….but
we didn’t have a Santa. Joey gave up his Saturdays to dress
in a hot, itchy Santa costume and hold pets on his lap… all
in the name of fundraising for the cats.
Soon Joey had completed his hours, and like
most teens, we expected not to see him again. But he surprised us
again when he continued to give up his Friday nights to be with
the kitties. How many teens do you know who would choose to spend
their Friday nights scooping litter boxes? When he was asked why
he does it, he says, “I love the cats, and I love the people
I’ve met at Town Cats.”
Joey has helped make
a difference in all the kitties lives at the shelter….and
the kitties thank him. Big Paws up for Joey!!!
Send us an email if you'd
like to volunteer to help the cats!
