Meet the Volunteers of the Month (June/July 2007) -
Jane Lei and Joe Ong!

Meet Jane Lei and Joe Ong, this month's (June/July, 2007) Town Cats Volunteers of the Month!

Meet Jane Lei and Joe Ong, two of Town Cats' wonderful volunteers who open their home and hearts to Special Needs cats until they find permanent homes. They first contacted us about 3 years ago and specifically asked if we had any special needs cats who required foster care. Well we had just taken in Dewey, a young very active playful boy who was Leukemia positive. They have a dog and took Dewey home and after a time, they fell in love and adopted him. Dewey lived out his life with them until he passed away about a year or so later. We did not want them to go through the loss again, and didn't want to ask them to take another special need kitty, but one day Jane called requesting another Leukemia positive kitty to foster...well we had just received Sammy, another young boy, active and playful like Dewey who was also Leukemia positive...and we were very surprised that they took him home to foster...Sammy didn't live as long as Dewey did, he passed away after about 6 months with them...Some cats can live very long lives with Leukemia, but for others, it's debilitating...so we thought they would want to take a break, but no, they understood their calling and this time not having any Leukemia or other seriously ill kitties, they took Goldie home, she's an orange and white short haired senior cat who needed time out from our busy shelter with 90+ free roaming cats...they groomed her, had dental work done on her and she didn't like their dog, so she came back to Town Cats and is still up for adoption...Now Jane and Joe are fostering Hobbs, a declawed grey medium length boy who is a Hurricane Katrina survivor, he needed time out from our shelter too and is okay with their dog.

The cats are so lucky to have people like Jane and Joe to care for them! Thank you, and a huge paws up to you!

Send us an email if you'd like to volunteer to help the cats!
