Meet the Volunteers of the Month (October 2005) -
Juanita Parker and her family!

Volunteering at Town Cats is A Family Event! The cats love it when families come to visit them...Meet Juanita Parker and her family, the October Volunteers of the Month! We thank you, many times over!

This was written by Juanita to explain how and why she and her family volunteer at Town Cats:

Since I have volunteered at the shelter, I normally have family members ask me what I do there. I tell them about my cleaning duties, trimming nails, and playing with the cats. My two children, Koopie and Jeannette, are eager to come to Town Cats to help out. Some of my other family members inquire about TownCats: I give them the history behind Town Cats, the objectives that you and volunteers work so hard to accomplish. When I take family members they are amazed by the number of cats they see. I can see in their eyes how astonished they are. Once they start helping out they begin to realize that there is actual work behind it. My 10-year-old nephew asked, "Where did all these cats come from?" That statement alone tells me that people don't realize the impact of irresponsible pet ownership. I begin to tell him of some of the stories of cats being dumped in a cardboard box in front of TownCats. I tell him about volunteers grabbing them off death row at the Humane Society; I tell them about kittens that were dumped out in the streets. I see the astonishment in his eyes turn to empathy -- he begins to work harder.

Koopie and Jeannette are eager to come to TownCats. On our way home, my kids always say, "Thank you Mom for taking us to Town Cats". It makes me feel proud that at a young age, they want to make a difference. When I ask my 7-year-old son what he wants to be when he grows up, he responds: "I want to be like Rosi; I want to find homes for the cats."

A big roar of thanks to Juanita and her eager younger helpers! We couldn't do it without you!

Send us an email if you'd like to volunteer to help the cats!
