Town Cats is a member of the Petfinder Shelter & Rescue Groups

Please remember to activate your 1 month Pet Insurance - for just $1! - that comes in your adoption package when you adopt one of our cats or kittens.

This is a list of all available cats & kittens currently listed on the website.

Click on the image of the cat and a pop-up profile will appear. We use pop-ups to allow easy browsing of the gallery.

We do however still have a number of cats who are waiting to be listed or who may be recent arrivals. We update several times a week, when necessary to try to keep the site as uptodate as possible.

Thank you.

In 2005, Town Cats took in 7 cats from Hurricane Katrina; all but 1 have been either re-adopted out, or reclaimed by their owners.

Rescued from the Hurricane, and still unclaimed...

Special Needs
Do you need a special friend to care for and nurture? Our special needs cats really don't require much extra medical attention, they are quite capable and get around fine in their current foster homes or at our shelter, we just list them here since they have certain characteristics that is reason for them to be truly "Special" kitties! That's not to say that they won't live long though or that you will pay more in medical bills over their lifetime. Please consider one of our special guys and gals to take home and love! We normally charge $125 minimum adoption fee for each cat or kitten, or $210 for a pair. Each is current on vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, tested for disease, dewormed, defleaed, microchipped and ready to go home today!

I’m Here!!! I’m Waiting!!!
© 2005 – Carol Notermann

Look at me! See Me!! It’s Adoption Day!
I’ve been brushed and made ready to hear someone say…
“I want this one, please this one, is cute as can be”
Oh someone please say these words about me.
It’s been a long time since I heard goodbye.
When left all alone, at a shelter to cry.
Then these people saw that I wanted a home
A mom or a dad, and some love all my own.
So at Town Cats Shelter, I’m cared for and more
And each day I am sure “Mom” will walk through the door.
I’m not the cute kitten - that everyone sees
What’s that I’ve heard about forests and trees?
I’m a grown cat that just needs a home of my own.
Someone special to love – before time has flown.
I’m here and I’m yearning to have you pick me.
Don’t walk on by - turn around and see me!

Adult Alley

Contrary to popular belief, adult cats are very adaptable and do better with small children and senior folk than kittens or teenaged cats do because they are calmer, already trained and what you see is what you get (ie their personality is developed, so you can see their temperament). Adult cats make the perfect pet for those of us who have jobs that require long hours away from home as they are independent and housetrained. Enjoy the virtues of being the guardian of a full grown cat who won't get into trouble like a kitten or teen would if left to his or her own devices for extended time periods. Please consider our gorgeous adult cats as your next family addition! Our normal minimum adoption fee donation is $125 per cat or $210 for a pair. Each adult is spayed or neutered and microchipped, vaccinated, tested for leukemia, dewormed and defleaed and ready to go home today!

Hope and Chance
by Rosi

She sits in the window
and watches the people passing,
pointing at her
She remembers when she, too,
had a home
and a mom and dad
and a little boy and girl who
played with her
when she was a kitten

But for some reason
when she got big
they left her outside
all the time
and forgot her, she guesses

And well, she'd do it all again --
give a family a chance

Since she's so trusting --
she just wants to be loved.

Senior Catizens

Cats can live to be 15 years, 20 years, sometimes more. At a no-kill shelter like Town Cats, we do not believe in ageism. In fact, we think senior cats (8 years or older) make wonderful companions. These mature pets come with stable and developed personalities. With a mature pet, you can see his or her fully-developed personality and find just the right fit for you. In addition, while young animals are adorable, they can be lots of work and require constant attention. Mature cats are less destructive and often love to cuddle and enjoy lap time as well as play. It is said that shelter animals know they’re being given a second chance when they get adopted and are incredibly grateful, showing their gratitude with love and loyalty. We believe this is especially the case with mature cats who are looking for a loving human companion. If you’re looking for a great companion, consider adopting a kitty with a little silver in his or her fur.

If you aren't able to adopt one of these senior animals, please consider donating to the Senior Shelter Cat Residents Medical Care Fund. Some of these senior residents - if not adopted - will be with us the rest of their lives. As our residents age, they require special attention - physical exams, dentals, blood work and treatments for diabetes, hyperthyroidism, kidney disease etc. that is quite costly. To better care for our senior residents, we are seeking donations to cover the cost of their medical expenses. Please consider sponsoring a senior resident by sending $25, $50 or $100 to Town Cats every month. You can even donate on line and choose a senior cat to sponsor and send donations on line via paypal (or of course, we will accept a check sent in the mail as well!). Please email us and let us know who you would like to sponsor and for how much, and how your sponsorship will arrive. Please note - you can sponsor a kitty in memory of a beloved pet, and/or you can choose to list your name or make it anonymous. Let us know what you'd prefer!

Special Request: Los Banos Cats/Kits Needing Foster Homes/Adopting ASAP!
Please click here to help!!

Town Cats is a small, nonprofit, private organization providing temporary shelter for cats and kittens awaiting adoption into permanent homes. Because there are so many homeless, abandoned and unwanted pets in our society we simply do not have room to take in all the cats and kittens we get requests to take in on a daily basis. The only way we get room to take new cats in by adopting our residents out. We do not euthanize any cats in our care, they either get adopted or they pass away from disease. To help people find homes for cats they can no longer keep or for cats they rescued, we offer a Referral section where we list cats for adoption directly by their guardian or on behalf of another agency. All Town Cats requires is that each cat is spayed or neutered and in good health. We charge a $25 listing fee which the cat's guardian pays to Town Cats prior to the cat being posted on our site. They can either pay this on line from our site via paypal or mail a check to our PO Box or pay by credit card over the phone. All adoptions are between the adopter and the guardian or external agency. These cats have not been seen by Town Cats volunteers, staff nor vets.

HOW MANY CATS?

There once was a time when I had just one cat
But he needed a friend and so that was that.
But when the friend came, she invited her brother;
In less than a month, followed "Fifi," their mother.

Four cats now - that's the end I say
But I encountered a litter in my garage one day.
I found excellent homes for kits one, two and three,
But kit number four and Mom stayed on with me.

Kept indoors, all neutered - my family six strong;
I said - NO MORE - but not for long.
"June" was abandoned right near my job.
The day she was spayed, along came "Bob."

Well this all took place some years back
Now how many cats? I stopped keeping track.
I spend hours each day giving scratches and pats,
Some people have rugs; I have wall-to-wall cats!

Teenage Terrace
Do you need more fun in your life but don't want to go through the hassle of kitten training? Teenaged kittens may be the perfect answer for you as they are already house trained and can handle staying alone for extended time periods whereas kittens need more attention and caring for. Teens adapt well to new homes too. They usually have completed their vaccination series so have less vet work left to do when you adopt them too. But they offer lots of excitement as they are like human teenagers - curious, exploring, playful and active - who needs a vacation when you can have this much fun at home? Our normal minimum adoption fee donation is $125 per cat or $210 for a pair. We test one kitten from each litter (if they came to us as a kitten) for feline leukemia. Each teen is also spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed and ready to go home today!

Kitten Thoughts
by Rosi

Such a busy day
An important date with the fly
that must be kept

There's nothing like chasing a fly
Especially one that's uncatchable

Then, there's the matter of the birds
who flutter in front of the window
Begging to be chased

And oh dear!
It's fascinating to chase the sun rays
that make the dust shine like glitter

And of course, the balls,
the string, the toy mice ...

Such a busy day!
Is it time for a nap yet?

Outdoor Cats
Town Cats is a feral advocacy group and we do not take feral cat placement lightly. Placements of feral cats into permanent locations where they can live out their lives in peace is only pursued when it is in the best interests of the cat(s) and must be done correctly, which means a minimum of a one month long (two - three months is preferred if possible) confinement period in their new territory for imprinting purposes. We can supply pens to hold them in as needed and deliver all cats after inspecting the prospective outdoor home. All cats are spayed or neutered, ear notched for identification purposes and given all necessary medical treatment prior to our delivering them to you. We only place ferals in pairs or groups. Please contact Town Cats if you have a yard, barn or property where feral cats can safely be relocated and if you are committed to feeding, watering and providing shelter for them the rest of their lives as listed here are only a few of our feral cats who need permanent homes. No busy streets or coyotes please! We charge a minimum donation adoption fee of $25 per cat or negotiated for a group of cats. This helps cover our medical costs.
