Hi everyone,

Some of you may be wondering what happened to August's newsletter. We've decided to change the timing so that the newsletter comes out at the beginning of the month as opposed to the end, so this will be our August/September newsletter.

As you can see we've been adding in lots of new cats & kits this month and we have more coming every week, It's a busy time for us.

Educating the public has been high on our list this month, we continue to receive calls about new litters and we're doing our best to cope with the lack of county funding for spay neuters.

Thank you to all of those people who have made the effort to Spay Neuter animals in their care.

Great news from Petfinder & Purina

" Over 40 million people will open their newspapers on Sunday, September 7, to find a Purina circular that encourages them to adopt a homeless pet. "Help Us Help Them" is the theme of this incredible promotion from the wonderful folks at Purina (our premier sponsor)."

- taken from the Petfinder newsletter

Purina are also running a Sweepstakes to win: a one (1) year’s supply of their favorite Purina dog or cat brand food. Sweepstakes ends at 11:59:59 PM PT on 9/10/2003
Congratulations to Precious

Precious has a new family !!!
2 heads may be better than one.....

.. but 3 legs are enough !!!
Pet Licenses

We'd also like to remind everyone that licensing your Pet as required also helps fund the programs shelters like TC depend on. If you live in an area that requires a License, please consider licensing your pets.
Renfield is a 3 legged kitty who has been living with a TC Volunteer for years. He's so well adjusted to, home, office and outdoor life.. 3 legs hasn't slowed him down at all. Here he is walking to the car to go to work with his guardian. He jumps right in and loves to sit in the passenger seat grooming himself. He sleeps indoors every night though, even though he is a tough guy who chases any other cat he may come upon...

Pet Photography

Additions to the site this month include a Pet Photography section, to help make the most out of your photographs. If you'd like to contribute to that section we'd love to hear from you.

We've been trying to improve the quality of the photographs in the adoption section with the help of some of our friends and volunteers who have been kind enough to come down and take new pictures for us. At a later date we hope to add in a gallery of shelter photos for everyone to enjoy.

Future Articles

We'll also be adding in a whole bunch of information about relocating with your pet. Relocation is one of the main excuses we hear for people surrendering their pet and we want to help provide as much useful information on the subject as possible; to help pet owners who really don't want to leave their pet behind ...but don't know what to do. Stay Tuned for details !!

Pre-Adoption application

We now have a PDF version of the Adoption application available on the site for those of you who would like to get pre -approved for adoption.

This form is a fillable PDF which you can fill online and then print off and mail to TC. You will still need to complete the Adoption application at the time of adoption, but this will allow you to begin the process before meeting your prospective new friend and speed up the adoption process.

Sweeps & Freebies

These have been added to the main site now and can be found here .

Hi

I have 4 cats that are indoor only. There are 2 stray cats in my complex that I have been feeding. (They are used to coming for food out front of my house) I just sold my house and am moving. The cats are wild and wont' let me pet them or get near them. Are they better off leaving in their environment or should I try to catch them in a cage and put them outside at my new place? I assume they don't belong to anyone else since they won't let me pet them and are always hungry. I am moving from San Jose to Los Gatos so it isn't a far move, it would just me a new environment for them. If you suggest I try to catch them, do you have cages I could borrow or rent?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Dear C,

You need to trap them and take them with you...we can loan you traps - while you have them in the traps, you should stop at the vet and get them neutered and an ear notch too. See our website home page and click on spay neuter info for the lowest cost clinics for feral cats...

We can loan you a big cage to hold them in for a month at your new place, they need to "imprint" their new territory before letting them loose; if you have a shady area or patio that's best...somewhere protected from the rain...let me know and we'll loan you the gear!

Thanks, TC

Claw Clip Tip:

Many cats do not like having their nails clipped and make their displeasure very apparent when this grooming procedure is attempted by their guardians! If your kitty falls into this category and you are having difficulty clipping your cat's claws yourself, you might want to try this.

There is no "rule" that states that all ten front nails must be done all at once! Try clipping only one or two nails at a time--most cats will tolerate one or two clippings before they have had enough. Then you can do one or two more the next day until all the front claws are eventually clipped. This method is less traumatic for both you and your dramatic kitty!

Cats instinctually and physically need to scratch, so don't forget to provide your cat(s) with a nice tall, sturdy scratching post to encourage them to use their claws on a spot that is acceptable.
