Boy have we been busy these past couple
of months! Talk about fall blowing in with a blast! Kittens have been
coming in like crazy! Strays and ferals are everywhere it seems! Luckily
most of the calls we receive are from people who have found kittens
or strays and want to do the right thing by trapping and neutering
them or helping find them homes.
Our booth at the Taste of Morgan Hill Street Festival held September
27 and 28 was a great success this year! We met lots of people who
are interested in helping the cats by volunteering and we also received
quite a bit in donations, besides the added bonus of enjoying the
company of friends, good food, wine, music and lots of arts and crafts
to buy! A lot of our volunteers spent the day at the festival!
The biggest news of all is that there's a new FREE spay neuter program
available to all cats in the bay area through Project Henry! See our
web site for details, but basically it covers FREE spay/neuters for
domestic/friendly cats and kittens and covers FREE testing for leukemia,
vaccinations and spay/neuters for feral cats and kittens. Project
Henry was initiated with start up funding by an anonymous donor to
Silicon Valley Animal Rights organization to administer. The program
honors the memory of Henry, a beloved member of the Silicon Valley
Animal Rights organization. See our website for more details.
Here's to a fantastic autumn season to you all!

Cinderella and Tyson |
Changing
Eating Habits
Sometimes it's necessary to alter your cat's diet and start them on
a new brand of food. To help your cat make a smooth and "solid"
transition don't cut them straight out to a new brand. Over a period
of time mix in the new brand of food, gradually increasing the percentage
of new food. Be sure to keep a watchful eye on kitties toilet habits.
Switching to a new brand can often cause upset stomach.
If you have several cats you may find it beneficial to buy several
bags of different dry food and mix them in a large container, then
portion it out into glad bags or other airtight containers.
Cool cats
In hot weather pop an ice cube or two in the water bowl. Not only
will it keep the water cool for your kitty, it gives them something
new to play with for a short time.
Our cats have a blast chasing ice cubes round the water bowl. They
have one of the water bottle dispenser type and love to bat it in
and out of the opening like ice hockey players.

.....both were adopted together this month!
We've had Cinderella since 3/01 when she was only about 6 months old
and was picked up off the side of a road by the county animal control
after having been hit by a car.
The Santa Clara County shelter wouldn't pay the tab to repair her
broken leg, so the vet called TC to take charge of her...she's healed
just fine, but apparently was pregnant and while recuperating at her
foster mom's had a litter of six kittens. She was young and unskilled,
and 5 died, the only survivor was Uno, who was taken in by another
mama cat at TC. So, little Cinderella's had a rough start, but is
home at last!
Tyson is one of the infamous Morgan Hill 150+ gang and we've had him
since April 2002 - so he's very happy to have a home to call all his
own now too - even if sharing it with one other cat, little Cinderella...
Good Luck in your new home guys !! |

Hi. I was just wanting to seek some advice.I have an orange tabby
stray that has been showing up in my yard. Well, I have been feeding
it and it has adopted me! It finally let me pet it last week and
seeks my attention now and has become very friendly. It expresses
an interest in coming into the house. However, I currently have
a female cat, 6 years old
Caroline
Dear Caroline,
Which cat did you adopt from us a couple of years ago? Hope she
or he's doing great!
On the stray, do you have a vet? Any vet can look at the cat and
let you know if male or female, neutered or spayed.
We use AMC in SJ, 267-7387, tell them TC sent you and ask for reduced
rates to check out the new cat for you.
He'll need a test for leukemia - FIV, dewormed, defleaed and FVRCP
vaccine.
Most cats adjust quickly to life indoors - they love the warmth
and soft things to lie on. Keep him in a separate room from your
cat at first - slowly introduce them to each other - your cat may
know him already by watching him through the windows, so it may
simpler than expected for them to accept each other...
There's a free spay neuter program available now too - see our site
home page for details on Project Henry and enjoy your new kitty!
Thanks for writing! rosi
