April Adoptaversary Updates! April 2016 Michelle & John R. with Ray Ray and Scooter: “Everything is going well.  Scooter and Ray-Ray have trained us well.  They are very sweet boys and love to be involved in everything we do. When we walked into the Town Cats room, Scooter immediately rubbed against John’s leg. I love to say that he chose John.  When I said that we really wanted a bonded pair or littermates, we were happy to find out that Scooter had a brother. We are so happy that they have become a part of our lives.” Martha P. with Tinkerbell: “Tinkerbell grew up to be a beautiful big girl, with a hearty appetite.  She has a sweet, shy disposition.  She loves to sit in laps when not chasing her…

March Adoptaversaries! Gathered by Denali R. March 2016 Adoptaversaries! Beth Johnson with Kimba: "We are all so glad we brought this baby into our home. He's headbutting my leg right now as I type. We renamed him Kimba (after the white lion in the anime series). He's a little rough around the edges, but when you start off in life as he did, it's no surprise the world is still a little scary. He went from bitey and scratchy to purring and cuddly. He talks all the time. He's just wonderful, and we adore him. You can see more pics of him on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/planetary_pan/ plus all our other cats, including our tortie, who also came from Town Cats. Her original name was Sabrina, but we call her Chessy.…

Bonding With Your New Adult Cat By Hayley Shucker So, you did something very special during the holiday season—you’ve adopted a furry friend! First of all,  congratulations and thank you for adopting—it saves lives! If your new friend is an adult cat, she (or he) will need special attention when coming to their forever home. If you are a novice cat owner, here are some tips to help you bond with the new addition to your family. She might be scared and hide for a few days. Even if she was friendly and begging for your affection at the adoption center, that attitude can change when you get home with her. Two things, in particular, can trigger your cat to run and hide: the car ride home and odors in…

Home For The Holidays: Ginger Finds A Home Written by Nin Parker & Jose Parra In most animal shelter settings, there is that subset of the population that requires a tad bit more time to build a trusting bond. At Town Cats, aside from some of our newly arrived shy residents, we have our Legacy Cats who, aside from ever so friendly senior Christy, are some of our most difficult to place due to their undersocialized personalities. One of these Legacy Cats is Ginger who had been with us since before Rosi, our founder, passed away. Fortunately, there are saviors that alleviate the undersocialized population by being able to form a bond, where others deemed unfeasible. Sometimes a person has such an innocent personality that a cat can sense humility…

The Wonderful Staff of Town Cats Written By Jose Parra For an organization to function effectively, each operational aspect of an organization must create an ensemble of productivity that leads to success. At Town Cats, we are fortunate to have an effective Board of Directors and the thousands of supporters we have gathered over the decades! The many different types of volunteers contribute their time and energy for the cats in our care, onto the off-site volunteers that foster our kitty cats and the ever-loyal transport volunteers. We could never do it without them, for which we are truly thankful. However, at the front lines of Town Cats stands our proud staff, who have always been able to adapt to the changing times and continue the humble care of our…

Volunteers Move Us Forward

Volunteers Move Us Forward Written by Jose Parra At Town Cats, we operate cohesively as a team to effectively handle the day to day and prepare for the long term. Our tight-knit staff and board of directors work our magic to keep Town Cats ahead of the game and keep us agile at what we do best. Giving Tuesday allows us to fundraise for the future but prepare for tomorrow. However, It always benefits the cats of a shelter for a little extra attention and care, for a fully enriched life to express themselves as they would naturally. Volunteers do this beautifully in their separate ways, and we are incredibly thankful for their time! But in which methods do our exceptional volunteers assist us, you may ask? On-site at Town…
