Lady Bunny’s New Home

When Lady Bunny first arrived at Town Cats at the end of last year, she hid under her blanket in fear and would not let anyone near her. It took weeks for her to even come out from underneath her blanket let alone be touched. We knew she was going to need some time, love, and attention to help her come out of her shell. We started with small gestures, pets, treats, and gentle speaking to get her comfortable with being in her new environment at the shelter. In January, she was adopted by a family who was aware of her shyness and was willing to work with her at her home to socialize her, however, she unfortunately was returned for lack of progress. Jewels is a cat originally from Kuwait and was part of a mass rescue effort for cats which was spearheaded by our wonderful friends at Nine Lives Rescue in Redwood City, CA. A total of 50 cats were transported from Kuwait to Redwood City by airplane to start their journey in finding forever homes. As a helpless stray cat in Kuwait, Jewels was an amazing momma cat taking care of four small kittens. She fought daily through difficult circumstances to take care of her little ones. It was discovered that Jewels was intentionally injured by a person throwing bleach in her face. The bleach caused major damage to her eyes which eventually led to the removal of both her eyes. Vomiting in cats is the most common problem seen in adult cats of all breeds and sexes. While it can be easy to think that vomiting is “just” due to hairballs, vomiting and nausea is not normal and should not be ignored--You wouldn’t want to be nauseous all the time, so don’t let your cat feel sick! Vomiting can be a sign of an underlying medical condition and your veterinarian should rule out the common causes during a physical exam or with lab testing. Different age groups of cats are prone to different diseases. In cats over 7 years old, vomiting is often caused by kidney disease, thyroid disease, cancer, or other serious conditions. Thank you to all who attended our spring fundraiser, Catbaret! It was a night of laughs, magic, dance, music, and of course...Moshow! Our sold out crowd sang along to all of Moshow's cat themed hits, and our VIP attendees were over the moon getting to spend some quality time with Moshow after the show. Our sought after raffle and silent auction items, combined with Town Cats swag and tasty treats helped us to raise over $8500 for the kitties in our care! Did you know that when cats scratch with their claws , they aren’t just “sharpening their claws” or marking their territory? Scratching is also FUN! Cats scratching is the same as dogs chewing—both are natural, normal behaviors that should be encouraged. Every cat owner should provide multiple ways in which cats can engage in scratching behavior… without ruining the furniture. By purchasing a scratching post or other surface and placing it near the place where the cat is scratching, you can often redirect the cat to scratch on that object instead.
