Naomi Smalls came to our shelter as a surrender in May when she was just 6 months old. Having moderate-severe Cerebellum Hypoplasia (CH), She cannot keep her balance and has trouble walking.  CH is a neurological condition in which the cerebellum is smaller than usual or not completely developed, and it has been reported in many animal species. Naomi lived in a wonderful foster home where she was socialized and given the love and care that her needs require.  She was adopted by a former volunteer who wanted to open her heart and home to a special needs cat. Ensuring that her home was made safe for Naomi and doing extensive research to be able to provide her with the purrfect home, she is now happy and healthy in her…

Summer Parasites: Part Two In our last blog, we covered fleas, ear mites, and ticks, external summer pests all of which can cause plenty of harm; at least these parasites can be removed manually and easily treated to an extent. Today’s vermin are a lot different in how they affect our cats. We’ll discuss ringworm fungal outbreaks, as well as heartworm and hookworm infestations which manifest internally in our cats’ digestive tracts. These parasites are lurking almost year-round, however they’re specially active during warmer climate conditions prevalent during Summer. With vermin like these, it’s important to stay up to date with medicating your pets with the appropriate monthly doses per your veterinarian’s advice. Ringworm knows no boundaries. It will spread to both humans and animals with ease upon close contact…

Jewels Incredible Journey HOME! If you recall, we had a beautiful blind female cat name Jewels that came to our shelter earlier this year hoping for her furrever home. This is how her story began: Jewels is a cat originally from Kuwait and was part of a mass rescue effort for cats which was spearheaded by our wonderful friends at Nine Lives Rescue in Redwood City, CA. A total of 50 cats were transported from Kuwait to Redwood City by airplane to start their journey in finding forever homes. As a helpless stray cat in Kuwait, Jewels was an amazing momma cat taking care of four small kittens. She fought daily through difficult circumstances to take care of her little ones. It was discovered that Jewels was intentionally injured by…

Overpopulation in Cats

Overpopulation in Cats

Cat Blog Articles
Cat Overpopulation Currently, the ASPCA approximates 3.4 million cats entering animal shelters nationwide every year. Statistics show that 3.1 million cats are adopted each year; however, the rest of the abandoned population faces either euthanization or a prolonged stay at municipal or rescue shelters. Cats from overpopulated shelters come from either all kinds of owner surrenders or the many instances where cats are picked up by Animal Control. In order to ensure a happy ending for all cats, people across the community work tirelessly to ensure overpopulation is reduced in many different ways.   Spay And Neuter It all stems from the simple fact that not everyone spays or neuters their cats. Besides maintaining the cat population, spay and neuter prevents certain types of cancers and other health conditions that…
