A Special Story About A Special Cat Written by Amber Le As we frequently see many cats find their special homes, one of our most heartfelt stories is about Wendy (now known as Winnie). Wendy pretty much had the whole package: exotic looks, a loving nature, and her overall positive presence. However, it was a bit hard for her to be adopted. She has a condition called feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) which severely weakens her immune system. FIV is only contagious through deep bite wounds and cats with this condition tend to live long, healthy lives. Wendy’s charm and affectionate behavior usually caught people’s eye but potential adopters would usually worry about her health. As a result, she remained at the shelter for a while. As the days went by…

Your Cats’ First Week Home Pt.1 By Cece Gu I adopted two orange tabbies when they were about three months old. In my experience, orange tabbies are generally very friendly cats and are really easy to bond with. While I bonded with one of them within about three days, the other one was extremely shy with me. But our bond started to form about after two weeks as he got more confident in his new environment. Here are some tips for gently and effectively introducing new cats to you and your home. Tip #1: Give them space (don't force anything). Give them personal space once they get home. That means letting them take the lead and not chasing them when they run or when they are trying to hide. Pay attention…

Ensuring that her home was made safe for Naomi and doing extensive research to be able to provide her with the purrfect home, she is now happy and healthy in her…

Summer Parasites: Part Two In our last blog, we covered fleas, ear mites, and ticks, external summer pests all of which can cause plenty of harm; at least these parasites can be removed manually and easily treated to an extent. Today’s vermin are a lot different in how they affect our cats. We’ll discuss ringworm fungal outbreaks, as well as heartworm and hookworm infestations which manifest internally in our cats’ digestive tracts. These parasites are lurking almost year-round, however they’re specially active during warmer climate conditions prevalent during Summer. With vermin like these, it’s important to stay up to date with medicating your pets with the appropriate monthly doses per your veterinarian’s advice. Ringworm knows no boundaries. It will spread to both humans and animals with ease upon close contact…

A TNR Story: How We Caught Our Cats By Gretchen Roberts This is a long tale of love at first sight. One late afternoon I was lounging on the deck of our house. I was gazing at the woodpile in the backyard when I saw a large calico cat making her way to the top of the pile. She sat down and started sunning herself in the late summer warmth. Then another movement drew my attention. A tiny gray tabby came out from under some of the logs and began a slow climb to the top of the pile to sit next to its mother. Immediately I said to my husband, “This is absolutely unacceptable!” I’ve always been a believer that cats don’t belong outside. Some cats may be successful…
