Adoption Overview

Our most immediate concern is to place all cats and kittens in safe, loving, responsible and permanent homes. Too often, wonderful animals end up in shelters because they weren't a good match for their families from the beginning. We require that potential adopters complete an application, go through a one-on-one interview with a Town Cats representative, consent to follow-up contact and pay the minimum adoption fee which helps offset the costs of maintenance and medical care provided to all the cats we serve.

We look for people who intend to provide a home for the ENTIRE life of the cat and understand what that requires. We also try to match your needs with the type and temperament of animal that will best fit your lifestyle.  If you are considering adopting a new furry friend, please read the following article: Things to consider before you adopt.

All adoptions of our cats and kittens are subject to approval by Town Cats. If approved, you can take home your new feline friend the same day provided the cat or kitten is ready to go!

Our current (as of January 2012) minimum adoption fee donation is: $50 for an adult 1 year or older ($90 for a pair), $75 for a teenaged cat 4 months or older ($125 for a pair) and $125 for a kitten 2 months old to 4 months old ($180 for a pair).

Hope
and Chance
by Rosi

She sits in the window
and watches the people passing,
pointing at her
She remembers when she, too,
had a home
and a mom and dad
and a little boy and girl who
played with her
when she was a kitten

But for some reason
when she got big
they left her outside
all the time
and forgot her, she guesses

And well, she'd do it all again --
give a family a chance

Since she's so trusting --
she just wants to be loved.

Outdoor/Feral Cats adoptions

For Outdoor/Feral cat adoptions, we require a site inspection. Adoption fees vary depending on how many cats adopted, but a minimum $25 donation per cat is recommended. We deliver feral cats to you and will provide the enclosure/cage required for minimum 30 day imprinting.

Each cat will have been

  • spayed/neutered
  • vaccinated
  • dewormed
  • defleaed

Senior Cats adoptions

Some of the cats in our shelter are older; they may have a little silver in their fur, but are calmer and not as likely to try to climb the curtains as a kitten. They often are just fine with being alone if necessary. Please consider adopting an older kitty! This video is a tribute to Red Dog, one of our older kitties who was adopted and much loved. PLEASE view it, and think about adopting a wonderful older cat....

Also ask us about senior cats for senior people rates too, which are negotiated based on the cat and the person unique situation!

Referrals

Town Cats is a small, nonprofit, private organization providing temporary shelter for cats and kittens awaiting adoption into permanent homes. Because there are so many homeless, abandoned and unwanted pets in our society we simply do not have room to take in all the cats and kittens we get requests to take in on a daily basis. The only way we get room to take new cats in by adopting our residents out. We do not euthanize any cats in our care, they either get adopted or they pass away from disease. To help people find homes for cats they can no longer keep or for cats they rescued, we offer a Referral option where we list cats for adoption directly by their guardian or on behalf of another agency. All Town Cats requests is that each cat is spayed or neutered and in good health. We charge a $25 listing fee which the cat's guardian pays to Town Cats prior to the cat being posted on our site. They can either pay this on line from our site via paypal or mail a check to our PO Box or pay by credit card over the phone. All adoptions are between the adopter and the guardian or external agency. These cats have not been seen by Town Cats volunteers, staff nor vets. These cats are marked as "Referral" in their profile.

Kitten Thoughts
by Rosi

Such a busy day
An important date with the fly
that must be kept

There's nothing like chasing a fly
Especially one that's uncatchable

Then, there's the matter of the birds
who flutter in front of the window
Begging to be chased

And oh dear!
It's fascinating to chase the sun rays
that make the dust shine like glitter

And of course, the balls,
the string, the toy mice ...

Such a busy day!
Is it time for a nap yet?
