The Town Cats Board and I are thrilled to officially announce that Megan Hasenauer has accepted the position of Director of Town Cats, and is responsible for all aspects of running the organization. She reports into the Board in this new role. We’re very happy that Megan has accepted this new challenge – she brings continuity to the organization with her almost 3 years of experience working for us, but she also brings exciting new ideas, and a passion for Town Cats and the people and cats that we work with. Congratulations to Megan!

Over the past eleven years that I have been involved with Town Cats, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the organization evolve and change to meet the changing needs of the community, and adapt to external factors. We’ve dealt with the passing of our Founder, Rosi Mirko, and many changes in managers and staff, along with volunteers. We have expanded our focus from almost exclusively taking in cats and getting them adopted, to add in many varied programs to address a variety of needs. Programs such as TNR/Feral Freedom to help out the feral cats in the community, Community Cupboard to provide supplies for cat owners and caretakers, Educational programs for the community, and various programs designed to help people keep their cats rather than surrender them have all been implemented. We’ve dealt with external challenges such as COVID, economic downturns, flooding due to rainstorms, and now most recently moving out of our old shelter due to physical issues with the building.

So now that we moved out of our Morgan Hill shelter in December, here we are —Shelterless, with 50 cats in our care, looking ahead and asking: how do we keep showing up for the cats who need us most and what are our priorities? Our Board and staff have worked hard on this, and have our short term plans well defined. But we would like to embark on a process over the next few months to get additional input from our volunteers, supporters and the community to ensure that our plans align with community needs and supporter priorities. That process will be defined and shared in the coming months.

Now I’d like to turn it over to Megan to share with you her thoughts and some updates.
