June is Adopt a Cat Month!

June is Adopt a Cat Month, and if you’ve been thinking about adding a feline friend to your family, there’s no better time to do it. But why adopt a cat? There are plenty of reasons!

When you adopt from a rescue or shelter, you’re helping save lives. Town Cats is a no-kill shelter, which means we do not euthanize or transfer cats out of our care to make space. Every time a cat is adopted, it opens up room and resources for us to help another cat in need, whether that’s a community cat, a kitten without a safe place to go, or a cat at risk in another shelter.

Cats also bring endless entertainment into our lives. They zoom through the house, chase toys, nap in the strangest positions, and develop quirky habits that make us laugh every day. Depending on your cat’s PUURsonality, they might curl up beside you on the couch, follow you from room to room, sleep on your pillow, or become your favorite companion for game day. Just be sure they’re prepared for those touchdown celebrations!

Beyond being adorable, cats can have a positive impact on our well-being. Studies have suggested that a cat’s purr may help reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Cat ownership has also been linked to reduced feelings of loneliness and improved emotional health. Of course, they may occasionally wake you up at 3 a.m. with an unexpected hairball, but most cat owners would agree the benefits far outweigh the inconveniences.

Most importantly, cats become family. They are loyal companions who provide comfort, friendship, and unconditional love. At Town Cats, we know firsthand how much these remarkable animals enrich our lives.

If you’re looking for a way to make a difference this June, consider adopting a cat. You’ll gain a wonderful companion, and you’ll help create space for another cat in need to get their second chance.
