April Adoptaversary Updates! April 2016 Michelle & John R. with Ray Ray and Scooter: “Everything is going well.  Scooter and Ray-Ray have trained us well.  They are very sweet boys and love to be involved in everything we do. When we walked into the Town Cats room, Scooter immediately rubbed against John’s leg. I love to say that he chose John.  When I said that we really wanted a bonded pair or littermates, we were happy to find out that Scooter had a brother. We are so happy that they have become a part of our lives.” Martha P. with Tinkerbell: “Tinkerbell grew up to be a beautiful big girl, with a hearty appetite.  She has a sweet, shy disposition.  She loves to sit in laps when not chasing her…

Is Cat Wine Safe? Written by Caitlyn Conville Want to get your cat something special to celebrate their birthday or adoption? Or are you just ‘feline’ in the mood for a drink and want some company? Cat wine is a beverage designed specifically for cats and is one of the more amusing trends in the cat-loving, wine-drinking community. But before you ‘purr’ kitty a glass, read on to see if cat wine is the right choice for your furry companion. Most importantly, cat wine does not contain any alcohol or grapes. March Adoptaversaries! Gathered by Denali R. March 2016 Adoptaversaries! Beth Johnson with Kimba: "We are all so glad we brought this baby into our home. He's headbutting my leg right now as I type. We renamed him Kimba (after the white lion in the anime series). He's a little rough around the edges, but when you start off in life as he did, it's no surprise the world is still a little scary. He went from bitey and scratchy to purring and cuddly. He talks all the time. He's just wonderful, and we adore him. You can see more pics of him on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/planetary_pan/ plus all our other cats, including our tortie, who also came from Town Cats. Her original name was Sabrina, but we call her Chessy.…

Random Acts of Kitty Kindness Written by Caitlyn Conville   This Spring, we should strive to do more good deeds and in general, just be kinder to ourselves, to the planet, to one another… and that includes our more cuddly companions! Here are seven actions - one for every day of the week - that the felines in your community will surely appreciate.   Spread awareness! It’s as easy as signing a petition or sharing a post on social media about a cat who is looking to be adopted. You can also take a little extra time to educate others. Create flyers that detail warning signs of animal abuse and resources on how to report it, the importance of spaying and neutering your pets, or remind your neighborhood to check…

Why Senior Cats Make Amazing Pets Written by Reanne Rodrigues Looking for a lazy nap companion? A playful, toy-loving hunter? Or a pet that loves children and other animals? An adult cat can be all this and more.  I met a lovely seven-pound, a ten-year-old senior cat named Toots last week. Toots was adopted by my friend Jane after many months of being overlooked by other adopters due to her age. Jane, however, just couldn’t resist Toots’ delightful purring and endearing sneer (due to an extracted tooth). It was the best decision Jane ever made. Toots is super friendly, very easy to care for, and even endures the dog’s kisses. But most of all, she makes Jane incredibly happy.  Toots’ adoption story isn’t uncommon. Many people who visit shelters usually…

As A Community, We Thrive Written by Jose Parra As 2020 draws to a unique conclusion, with all of its afflictions currently abetting all of our hampered plans for the short term, It’s that time of the season again. Late November is the prime time for reflecting and forming aspirations for future progress in our pursuits, so let’s do just that!  After almost a full year of uncertainty, Town Cats has held itself together stronger than ever before. As a staff member of over a year with plenty of volunteer time before that, I’ve witnessed how we, as a staff, can coalesce during trying times and charge forwards towards the obscurity of 2020. However, nothing on earth can ever halt the annual procession of events that keep a shelter as…
